Pull one of the curtains to the side and take a step in, you won’t believe your eyes. Behind the curtain reveals a fantastic secret garden created by the neighbours.

The large roofless room is full with flowers in pots and cans standing on the ground, hanging from the walls and in lines; Roses, pelargoniums, begonias, violas and many more. It won’t be long before one of the neighbours comes out to greet you and make you feel welcome in their little village. The secret garden has become a tourist attraction with several visitors every day.

The ruin can be purchased and rebuilt, partly subsidies by the town hall. The location is excellent, almost on the top of the village, only a stone throw to the historic hotspot of the remains of the Roman emperor Julius Caesar’s villa. This weekend, 20 and 21 of May the Cave “Gran Duque” in Sierra de la Utrera in Casares is open for the general public with guided tours.
There will be two groups on Saturday and two on Sunday, at 9 in the morning and at 12 noon. Places are limited to 10 persons per group. Tickets are purchased at Blas Infante’s childhood home in the village.

The Gran Duque cave is situated in the mountain Sierra de la Utrera in Casares. The mountain has several caves but The Gran Duque cave is the largest. The cave was discovered in recent years and was first kept a secret while studied by a team of archeologists. The remains found in Sierra de la Utrera shows the fascinating fact that this area was inhabited already in prehistoric time 100.000 years ago!
It is very exciting that the town hall of Casares is innovative in its goal to make Casares even more attractive for both visitors and its citizens. The latest step in that direction is to build a zipline in the village. The project has already started and is planned to be ready and in operation in june!
With a length of 300 meters the Casares zip line will join the El Chaparral panoramic walk in Puerto de la Cruz with the “Las Peñuelas” area, at the end of Calle Molinos . The implementation of this installation will involve the construction of two platforms, of exit and arrival and the installation of 3 steel cables, two for the zip line and a third one that will carry the beacons that increase its visibility to avoid bird accidents.
The company building it is well experienced as they already made the famous Ziplines in Toledo, Comares and the longest in Spain; running between Extremadura and Portugal.
