Wild turtles
In ponds and rivers in Casares you can easily spot turtles. The can be very small when young but grow to almost 40 cm. They swim and also walk along the ground in the water like crabs. When you get close to the water you can spot a whole group of turtles diving into the water to avoid danger.
The live of both plants and animals; insects, worms and fish. Young turtles eat more meat and older turtles more vegetation. The life span is 40–60 years, they can under good conditions live over 100 years but it is unusual. So the turtles you see might have lived there for a very long time!
